The Executive

2012/2013 Executive Team:

President

Ifeula Gooding

I am Passionate about History and it is this passion that fuels my desire to encourage others to appreciate humankind's past. The History Society of UWI helped me to understand this. It is now my turn to give back to the Society and in that process, the Society will make history.

Vice President

Kimberley Hunte

History to some may seem boring and irrelevant but I say why ignore the past when you can learn from it. As Sir Winston Churchill once said, "Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it."

Secretary

Nerissa Sahadeo

I believe that history is the foundation on which our development is based. If it were not for the struggles of those who have gone before us, we would not have the opportunity for a fairer and better society. I look forward to working with the society for the upcoming year.

Assistant Secretary

Iesha Skinner

To all our returning members and our very new members, welcome to the History Society! My name is Iesha Skinner and this year I am extremely pleased to act as the Society's Assistant Secretary. We here at the History Society intend to make your experience at the University a very pleasant one. As your Assistant Secretary, I am here to assist you so please do not hesitate to bring your concerns to me. I hope to make you as excited about history as I am!

Whatever you are, be a good one.

I joined the Society to improve  its connection with students and to contribute my skills and talents towards its development.

Yesterday was history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift we call the present. Our History is the foundation of our current development and future achievements which must be recognized and highlighted.

Graduate Students' Representative

I believe in giving back to the University of the West Indies through assisting the History Society. Furthermore, my passion for the discipline also equips me to create historical awareness.

Third Year Representative

Nicholas Rampersad

I believe it is important for someone to know their past their culture, and their heritage. I study history because there is a lot to be learnt from understanding our past and it is important to not repeat mistakes of yesteryear in order to progress as a society.

Second Year Representative

Louise "Belle" Dover

I believe as a nation and a society we must know where we come from to know where we are going. History is an essential discipline to this endeavour. Feel free to contact me for advice.

First Year Representative

Neela Nanansingh

Pearl Buck once quoted "If you want to understand today, you have to research yesterday". It was this quotation that fascinated me. This quote helped me understand that in order for a person to prevail today (present) and build a better tomorrow (future), the downfalls and accomplishments of yesterday (past) should be understood and learned from.

History… is a tool we use each generation or each year to help get along in the world, discarding the old tool for a new one whenever necessary. (Paul K. Conkin)
